The subcommittee met at 10: 30 a. m., pursuant to recess, in the caucus
room, Senate Office Building, Senator Homer Ferguson, chairman of the
subcommittee, presiding.
Present: Senators Owen Brewster, Homer Ferguson, Joseph R. McCarthy, Carl
A. Hatch, Herbert R. O'Conor, Harry P. Cain, John J. Williams, Claude
Pepper. Present also: Senator Alexander Wiley; William P. Rogers, chief
counsel to the committee; and Francis D. Flanagan, chief assistant counsel

L. MARTIN CO., BALTIMORE, MD.
Senator Ferguson. The subcommittee will be in order.
Mr. Martin, will you take the stand?
Senator Ferguson. Will you raise your right hand? Do you solemnly swear in
the matter pending before this committee to tell the truth, the whole
truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?
Mr. Martin. I do.
Senator Ferguson. Will you state your full name, Mr. Martin?
Mr. Martin. Mr. Glenn L. Martin, president of the Glenn L. Martin Co.,
Baltimore, Md.
Senator Ferguson. And you are in the airplane business, the building of
airplanes?
Mr. Martin. Yes, sir.
Senator Ferguson. During the war, what planes did you build, Mr. Martin?
Mr. Martin. The
B-26, the PBM type of flying
boat, the Mars type flying boat, the B-29; those were the principal ships.

Senator Ferguson. Now, the B-29 was a bomber, and the
B-26 was a bomber, and the flying boats, the
PBY's, they were bombers. Did you build any cargo ships outside of the
Mars? That was a cargo plane?

"Senator Cain. I do not wish to be burdensome, but a question raised by
one of our committee members has excited my curiosity. I should like to
ask you to state your official position with the company that you belong
to.
Mr. Martin. I am president of the Glenn L. Martin Co.
Senator Cain. Will you recite the types of planes built by your company
that saw service in this war?
Mr. Martin. B-29, B-26, PBM, A-30.
Senator Cain. The B-29 was a ship which saw service, among other places,
over the Orient?
Mr. Martin. Yes, sir.
Senator Cain. The B-26
was a fighter bomber, was it not?

Mr. Martin. That is right. The PBM is a long-range patrol boat for the
Navy."
