Brothers Meet After Four Years Hackney Boys Both Served Overseas A reunion of two brothers for the first time in four years was held recently when Lt. Josiah R. Hackney III and PFC. William F. Hackney, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Josiah R. Hackney Jr., 31 N. Arkansas Av., returned home from overseas. Lt. Hackney enlisted in the Army Air Forces in October, 1942, and completed 35 missions over Germany as a bombardier-navigator on a B26 Martin Marauder bomber with the First Tactical Air Force in support of the Seventh Army. He also wears the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the ETO ribbon with two' battle stars and the Presidential Citation. After 30 days at home on leave, Lt. Hackney reports to Greensboro, N. C., for reassignment. In First Invasion Pfc. Hackney was a student in Atlantic City High School when he enlisted in the Army in November, 1941. Overseas for three years, he participated in the initial invasion of Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Wearer of the Purple Heart, Bronze Arrowhead, pre Pearl Harbor ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal for three years, -and the - ETO campaign ribbon with seven major battle stars, he has received an honorable discharge under the point system. |
