Leslie J. (Jack) Laydon. "I was in the 391st B.G, 573rd Squadron. You can see all 38 pictures. Some are better than others. As for me, I was a Bombardier/Navigator with the 391st Bomb group, flying with the Schaffron crew. Just 2 of us left. Flew 35 missions, including the ill fated Dec.23rd mission to Ahrweiler where we lost 15 planes, got DFC on this one. Otherwise not much to tell, I'm 79, old like all the rest of us WWII vets. Me and my Engineer/gunner, Gilbert Wojochowski are the two left. I actually ended up with the 597 Bomb Group at the end, as our Group had volunteered (our gung ho co) for Japan, but my crew had too many missions, so we were shipped out. The 391st then switched to A-26's, but never got to Japan." |
